JARVIS—Jarvis Community Christian School (JCCS) Science Fair was on November 25, 2022 and featured students in Grades 7 and 8. JCCS science teacher, Rachel Dykstra, says, “The students had to pick something they are interested in and turn it into a project with a new variable.” The projects took two months and included a report, display, and interview with judges. Many themes were explored and students in younger grades completed a scavenger hunt to find answers to questions in the projects.
Payton Kraay asked “Do You See What I See?” as she considered how the colour of text affects how people read. She says, “Yellow is the hardest to read, but people make the most mistakes while reading green.”
Brooklyn Bartlett was inspired by having fun with her dog, Marley. Using several different throw toys, she tested the theory that Marley would run faster for her favourite toy. Through the experiment, Brooklyn concluded Marley’s favourite toy is a squeaky chicken.
Jared Schuurman, whose “Competition of the Cups” determined the best cups for cold and hot drinks. He says, “I knew a lot of people with different cups, so I wanted to see which was best.” He learned that brand popularity does not necessarily mean it’s the best.
