HAGERSVILLE—The Haldimand Press is recognizing the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in three ways. First, we are presenting this special feature page to provide some local insight into the way this day – and Indigenous culture as a whole – is being recognized. This year we have shone the spotlight on our schools and their partnership with Indigenous educators, leaders, and historians. Secondly, The Press has encouraged its own staff to reflect on the information available and to take particular time this Friday to recognize the atrocities committed against Indigenous peoples in Canada, along with the future we want to see for our neighbours. Thirdly, The Haldimand Press is making two donations. The first is to the Six Nations Food Bank, as it will lend immediate assistance to area children and families. When people are fed, they can then focus on learning, growing, and improving their communities. The second is to the Woodland Cultural Centre so it can continue in its mission to preserve Indignous culture and history. We encourage our readers to explore the plethora of local information available on these topics, beginning this Friday and continuing all year long.
