HAGERSVILLE—The poppy is the enduring symbol of remembrance of the First World War I and lied in the landscapes on the Western Front. When visiting St. Nicholas Church in Rochester, Kent, England last year, we noticed that the church was decorated with over 7,000 poppies that were hand knitted by members of the church, as well as people from their community.
It was so awe-inspiring that in January I asked several church members, members of the community, and my knitting club to knit poppies for me. I supplied the wool and they knitted. I also figured out how to crochet a poppy. Throughout the year, I received the poppies and filled a Rubbermaid container with over 700 poppies.
