DUNNVILLE—On June 14, 2024 the Dunnville Community Theatre opened their hilariously funny and moving production of their “home grown play” entitled ‘Next’.
When 12 lonely people, all at loose ends in their lives, attend a disorganized speed dating event at a rundown pub, it takes a missing person and Tom Jones to help them see that they might be in the wrong place at the right time.
Ken Leavoy attended the production and had this to say after the show: “My, my, my Delilah, a delicious meal, a touching storyline with nods to local hotspots, and a stellar cast. DCT’s homegrown production ‘Next’ checks all the boxes. A must see for theatre fans.”
Claire Vanden Pol, co-writer, -director and -producer of the show, said, “We had sold out shows of 168 each night” at the RCAF No. 6 Dunnville Airport and Museum on June 14 and 15. She added, “We wanted to raise the awareness of the much-needed need for a home for DCT and importance of live theatre.”
Ahead of the play, attendees enjoyed musical entertainment by Hamilton-based singer/songwriter/artist Darcy Feaver (June 14) and multi-instrumentalist/singer/songwriter Eric Price (June 15), while food for both evenings was catered by Michelle’s Country Catering.
Attendees had plenty of good things to say about the production.
“Attended last night’s production and loved it!” said Wray and Bev Maclean. Drs Barb and Reza Kazimi added, “It was wonderful show, very well put together and covering many important aspects of living. We enjoyed the entire evening immensely.”
‘Next’ was written, directed, and produced by Kathryn Stengel and Claire Vanden Pol, has a cast of 16 actors, a crew of 16, and additional business and volunteer support. The producers, cast, and crew would like to thank the local community for their generous donations, which support the efforts of the Dunnville Community Theatre.
If you missed your opportunity to see this production in Dunnville, the good news is it will be presented at the Fisherville District Lions Community Centre, 18 Main Ave. W., on June 22 with opening act musician Mike Miron. Then it returns for a final show on September 14 at the Jarvis Lions Community Centre on James St. in Jarvis with opening act the Jarvis Lions’ Nightclub Singers.
