CAYUGA—While the last year has been challenging for most, small businesses have been especially impacted by restrictions imposed during the pandemic. This has not stopped business owners like Brittany Costabile from doing what they can to give back and support their community. At Cravings by Brittany Bakery and Boutique, patrons can support two innovative fundraisers that prove a little bit of sweetness can go a long way.
When Costabile opened the bakery in 2019, she wanted the menu to feature Heidi Cookies, a favourite treat made by a long-time family friend. Heidi Cookies are similar to Belgium or Empire cookies and Costabile explains, “Heidi made them for her family and friends for years, along with other cookies, at Christmas time. As years went by, she was diagnosed with dementia and wasn’t able to make them anymore so we wanted to carry on the tradition at the bakery.”
