HALDIMAND—Soroptimist International of Grand Erie is thrilled to announce a new free virtual learning series in order to help more local women “Live Their Dreams”. The learning series, hosted by the local club using Zoom, runs Thursday evenings between now and November 15 – that’s when applications close for this year’s round of “Live Your Dream Award” bursaries.
Our Virtual Learning Series Topics began with Managing Your TIME on October 20. Next up is:
- Thursday, October 27 at 7 p.m. – Managing Your MONEY
- Thursday, November 3 at at 7 p.m. – Managing Your STRESS
- Thursday, November 10 at 7 p.m. – Managing Your LIVE YOUR DREAM AWARD APPLICATION
“That’s right, the last session is focussed particularly on helping eligible candidates complete and submit their application. Soroptimist International of Grand Erie will be awarding at minimum one bursary worth at least $1,000 – but we hope that we will be able to help several women. Of course, if others want to partner with us and contribute financially, we would appreciate the opportunity to help more women live their dreams,” said Program Chair Renee VanderHarst.
This first-time learning series was made possible by a grant from Soroptimist International of the Americas, which also made it possible for Soroptimist Grand Erie to gift a handful of laptops to local community partners including area women’s shelters.
The intention is to remove barriers to education – making access easier and setting women up for success by providing the tools and confidence they need.
You are eligible to apply for a “Live Your Dream Award” bursary if you are a woman who:
- Provides the primary financial support for herself and at least one dependent. (Dependents can include children, spouse, partner, siblings and/or parents.)
- Has financial need.
- Is enrolled in or has been accepted to a vocational/skills training program or an undergraduate degree program.
Applications are open August 1 to November 15 annually through the online portal at bit.ly/LYDA-apply.
