To the Editors,

Mayor Hewitt has little to show for what he has done for the citizens of Caledonia and the forgotten east end of Haldimand, and I believe it is time for new blood with new ideas, especially on how to stop the Indigenous takeover of Caledonia.

According to a recent article that foresaw the building of large subdivisions in the Caledonia area, but with the background of recent events with the takeovers of partially built subdivisions, it’s like Russia and Ukraine dealing with Six Nations.

As for Mayor Hewitt’s reign, when he first took office, he on the taxpayers’ dime took a trip to France to bring industry to Caledonia, which we are still searching for, and he followed that up later on with a trip to somewhere in I believe Asia.

I don’t hold him responsible for inaction when the Douglas Creek Estates were invaded as no one could have prevented this, even ‘farmer Toby’.

I was really proud of the citizens of Caledonia who stood toe to toe with the invaders as good citizens should at Douglas Creek, but they all seemed to care less when wannabe Chief Skyler Williams invaded the now Land Back Lane 1492, which elected Chief Mark Hill signed off that it would never be bothered by Six Nations in exchange for land and wampum.

Skyler Williams called it his people’s land and stole equipment and a church bus and buried it on Argyle Street, but unfortunately for the man of the year Skyler Williams if alleged infidelity is involved you get demoted quite quickly to possibly stealing vehicles.

How many times have the roads been blocked over the years and nothing has ever happened to stop it from the mayor’s office who has connection to get something done but allegedly never bothered?

Lest we forget in the early stages of the pandemic the mayor was allegedly bending some laws over as to where his residence was, and this startling news item even made Canada’s superstation CHCH news.

As for me I would like to see someone with a university education, such as an ex lawyer or prominent business person, run for office as to me Mayor Hewitt has done some good things but until we elect a mayor who is able to form a lasting bond with the Six Nations over property rights and the rule of law, than Caledonia will never prosper; but personally I would like to see Haldimand sell or give Caledonia to Hamilton so we can have our peaceful lives back in east Haldimand.
