CAYUGA—Little Critters Childcare Centre, located in Cayuga, is holding a community food drive. This is the first year the centre is holding a food drive. Owner, Cassandra Toupin, said, “I really wanted to do it last year but with COVID, I wanted to keep outside items to a minimum to keep everyone safe and healthy.”
Toupin went on to explain that in the past, “My family and I have done clothing drives and put together little care packages for the homeless. We would go hand them out to individuals in need and donate the rest to local shelters.”
The food drive began on November 14 and will run until December 14. The food will be donated to the local Cayuga Food Bank to assist those in the community. Donations can be left in a designated bin outside the daycare location at 20 A King Street, Cayuga and are brought in daily.
“I think our collection has been going really well so far,” said Toupin. “For our first food drive, I feel that we have come together and have a good amount of items to donate.”
Toupin hopes that the event can help teach the children in her care “the gift of giving and how special it is to help others.” Toupin went on to add, “It is important to come together as a community to ensure that everybody has the items they need to feel safe, feel special, and be healthy.”
She hopes this will be the first of many yearly Christmastime food drives at her daycare centre.
