Alcohol use on the rise in community

By Haldimand Press Staff

HALDIMAND—After announcing five impaired charges from November 12 to 14, Haldimand OPP followed up with an additional three charges from November 20 to 22 and most recently one on November 27. Six of these charges were related to alcohol impairment and three to drug impairment. While it remains to be seen if 2020 as a whole will see more impaired charges than 2019, the Community Addiction and Mental Health Services (CAMHS) have noted a definite increase in alcohol use.

“CAMHS is seeing an increase in drinking related behaviors, especially binge drinking,” said Nancy Candy-Harding, CEO of CAMHS Haldimand Norfolk.
