Anne McAlpine: August 15, 2019

I first met Laurie Woolner of Cayuga over 40 years ago, as her husband Terry is a cousin of my late friend, Judy Allison of Simcoe. They are regular readers of The Press and Laurie has contributed to our column previously.

When we recently chatted on the phone, she told me about her homemade bagels and I immediately asked for the recipe. We also talked about her spinach salad, which she says is a favourite of her family and guests. When I tried it, I used green onions and chopped the water chestnuts up a bit, too. I only used part of the bag of bean sprouts.

Laurie says that the bagels are really easy to make and delicious. I haven’t tried them yet. She uses the Epicure Everything bagel topper and told me that the ingredients in it are dried chia seeds, sesame seeds, onion, and garlic.

When I asked Laurie for another recipe to share with our readers, she sent me her Christmas Morning Wife Saver recipe. She explained that it is a favourite of hers, especially when she has company overnight and breakfast the next morning. The recipe as shown below serves 12 people for breakfast or brunch.
