CALEDONIA—The Caledonia Corvairs turned their luck around by taking two decisive victories on a weekend marked by fast-paced action.
They travelled to Port Colborne to face the Sailors on Friday, December 13, 2024. Despite the superstitions surrounding the day, the Corvairs stayed sharp and skated away with a 6-4 victory.
Port Colborne struck early, taking a quick 2–0 lead in the first, but the Corvairs were far from spooked. At 16:40, Clark Dunford got Caledonia on the board with help from Ryan McGuire and Ethan Osborne. Less than a minute later, Evan Bradacs tied the game, capitalizing on an assist from Matthew O’Sullivan.
In the second, the Corvairs continued to slice through the Sailors’ defence. O’Sullivan notched his ninth of the season just over a minute into the frame, assisted by Bradacs.
Later in the period, Sami Douglas-Najem made it 4-3 for Caledonia with a timely goal set up by McGuire and Ethan Quick.
Osborne ensured the Corvairs would have the final say in the third period. He scored twice, including a power-play marker and an empty-net dagger with just 43 seconds remaining.
Keegan Jackson stood tall in net, stopping 34 of 38 shots to lock in the victory.
The following night, the Corvairs returned to home ice to host the Welland Jr. Canadians.
Caledonia wasted no time, with Drew Agnew scoring at 9:30 in the first, assisted by Gavin McAfee-Rankine and Tyler Clark. A minute later, Quick extended the lead, showcasing his precision shooting with McGuire and McAfee-Rankine picking up assists.
The Corvairs poured it on in the second with three more goals. McGuire scored just 32 seconds into the frame, Osborne followed with his 10th of the season halfway through, and Bradacs struck again just 12 seconds later.
The third period was more of the same dominance. Brody Leet lit the lamp at 4:38, Osborne continued his stellar weekend with another goal at 15:51, and finally Travis Houle rounded out the scoring at 17:35 with an unassisted tally.
Jackson was outstanding in net once again, turning aside 28 of 29 shots.
The weekend’s victories highlighted the depth and balance of the Corvairs’ roster. Osborne led the charge with four goals across the two games, while McGuire added four assists to complement his strong two-way play. The Corvairs’ special teams were also pivotal, going 2-for-8 on the power play and effectively neutralizing their opponents.
With 29 games played, the Corvairs have a 15-10-3-1 record, which sees them at fifth place in the Eastern Conference.
The Corvairs are next in action on December 19 in Hamilton to face the Kilty B’s. On December 21 Caledonia will host the Caledon Bombers.
