CALEDONIA—For 18 years the Caledonia Lions Club has hosted Fish Fry dinners during Lent. This past Friday, April 7 marked the final Lent dinner for 2023. Lion Steve Hayward, seen above left with Cindy Guyatt, says, “As a club, we have a lot of fun doing the fish fry and we raise a lot of money for the community.” With Wally Parr Sausage supplying both the fish and the French fries, the Caledonia Lions Club is able to give back to the community with the proceeds from these events. This year Wally Parr Sausage donated 800 pounds of fish!
Above centre, some of the original Lions Fish Fry crew posed for a picture: (l-r) Scott Brownwell, Dennis Howden, Guy Ryan, and Ted Fletcher. This team explained they begin the work for each event on Mondays and work for five days to prepare the food. When the club began doing fish fry events 18 years ago, it had only 12 members. Today, they have a larger membership and extra help from high school students looking to achieve their 40 hours of community service.
