HALDIMAND—Haldimand County has seen a surge in agricultural construction during the first half of 2019. Budgeted construction values for the period of January to June shot from $6,382,950 in 2018 to $53,865,409 for the same period in 2019.
“Any increase in construction in the community is positive, because it is revenue that comes into the county, whether it’s agriculture or housing,” states Mayor Ken Hewitt.
The spike in construction is attributed mainly to the building of a new exhibition facility in Caledonia and the rapid growth of the cannabis industry throughout the region.
“The County provided Caledonia with funds to help in their expansion, which I and members of Council all supported,” states Ward 3 Councillor Dan Lawrence. “The new exhibition hall will be an outstanding show piece for the county and will help the fair board move into the future with a facility that will allow them to compete with other venues for special events such as weddings, trade shows, and so forth. This year’s fall fair will see the new facility unveiled to the public and it is only fitting with the upcoming retirement of its long-time leader, Vicki Peart, a very special lady.”
