Dealing with mental health as a first responder

JARVIS—Accidents happen. When they do, it is important to have committed members of the community ready to jump into action. The many volunteer firefighters spread throughout Haldimand County work hand in hand with other emergency services to provide immediate help to people in danger.

But doing such important work can have a heavy toll. Mental health and PTSD-related issues are a reality for first responders. As Haldimand Norfolk expands and the population grows, the burden of responding to emergencies is an ever-growing challenge.
