Hagersville Hawks
The Hagersville Hawks faced off against the Dundas Blues on September 26, 2019. Dundas got on the board first, but Hagersville’s Harrison Larochelle tied it up only 13 seconds later. There was no scoring in the second, and then Dundas took the lead early in the third. This seemed to be the wakeup call the Hawks needed, as they then got goals from Ben Huffman, Patrick Sanelli, and finally Peter Cappucci on the empty net. Jamie Ferguson made 29 saves in the 4-2 win.
On September 28 Hagersville had a tough-fought match against Glanbrook. The Rangers opened the scoring early in the first; while Matt Weston managed to tie it up for Hagersville, Glanbrook found the back of the net again before the end of the period. Hagersville found their footing in the second and managed two powerplay goals, one from Ralph Taggart and one from Adam Carusello, to take the lead. Halfway through the third Glanbrook managed to even the score. Time was winding down and overtime seemed inevitable, but Hawk Tycie Cowan managed to squeeze on past the Glanbrook tender with only 12 seconds remaining. Jamie Ferguson made 24 saves in the 4-3 win.
Next, Glanbrook will be aiming for revenge on their home ice October 4. The Hawks will then host Hespeler October 5 at 7:30 p.m.
Dunnville Mudcats
The Mudcats had a promising start to their week as Matthew Fang got them on the board first against the Niagara Riverhawks on September 26. However, Niagara proceeded to answer back with three goals in the second and two more in the third. James Bradshaw managed to get one more for Dunnville on the powerplay in the third, but it was too little too late and the Mudcats lost 5-2. Austin Davison made 24 saves in net for Dunnville.
The following day Dunnville faced Hespeler. Mudcat Matt Dolan opened the scoring in the first. In the second Dunnville and Hespeler traded two goals each, with Dunnville’s coming from Matt Gallant and Seth McMahon. The Mudcats lost their footing in the third however, letting in three goals unanswered and losing the game 5-3. Mitch Harvey made 26 saves in net in the loss.
Next, the Mudcats host Port Dover on October 4 at 7:30 p.m.
Caledonia Corvairs
The Caledonia Corvairs came out strong against Thorold on September 28 with two goals in the first from Joel Mazzilli and Nick McHugh. Thorold brought the game within one halfway through the second, but McHugh answered back to maintain the two-goal lead. This was good for Caledonia, as Thorold managed one more in the third falling at the buzzer 3-2. Nick Clay faced only 12 shots in net for Caledonia, versus the 56 shots the Thorold goalie faced.
On September 30 the Corvairs demolished Buffalo in a 7-1 win. Dylan D’Agostino opened the scoring for Caledonia and Ryan Wells added another with one second remaining in the first. Tyler Burnie and Eric Guest each got one in the second. McHugh scored early in the third shorthanded. Burnie got his second a few minutes later, and Matthew Bridgwater scored on the powerplay less than a minute later. Up 7-0 Caledonia had no concerns when Buffalo managed one goal in the third. Harrison Fleming faced only 15 shots in net for Caledonia, while the Buffalo tender faced a whopping 83 shots.
Next, Caledonia hosts Niagara Falls on October 5 at 7:30 p.m. The following day they head to Welland.
The Caledonia Corvairs are a Junior B team in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League. The Hagersville Hawks and Dunnville Mudcats are Junior C teams in the Provincial Junior Hockey League.
