VITTORIA—Veteran’s Coalition Party candidate Harold Stewart is not enthused by what he sees on the political landscape, and he believes he has some solutions for the issues of the day.

Stewart’s family has been in the region for quite some time. “My family settled in Long Point in the 1730s,” states Stewart. “They’re one of the original families that were here.”

Originating from Scotland, Stewart’s family has a history of political activism. “Since 1197, they were fighting oppression against the English empire. My family fought alongside William Wallace at different battles.”

Stewart’s great-grandfather was a WWI veteran, and his grandfather fought in WWII. His uncle fought in Korea and became a police chief in Simcoe and his father was fire chief for Vittoria. Stewart himself served in Bosnia, where he encountered three close calls in the line of duty that made him decide it was time to come home.

From a young age, Stewart had an interest in politics. He could frequently be found watching political debates, or Iraq war coverage as a child: “I’ve always felt a sense of community, and a sense of duty.”
