JARVIS—According to the Jarvis Master Servicing Plan, Jarvis is expected to grow by 340 people, or 178 housing units, over the next 20 years.

Jane Wilson of JL Richards and Associates Ltd. presented the plan to Council on Tuesday, June 18, 2019.

Of primary concern is the Jarvis lagoon, which is nearing its wastewater treatment capacity. Wilson said that they had considered a number of options, and presented Council with the four most feasible choices.

All options included the ability to increase capacity by at least 420 cubic metres per day, as required for the expected population growth.

Alternative 1 is to add an enhanced treatment system at the current site, including two new treatment tanks and a new process building. This plan would decommission two of the existing lagoon cells. A new system would provide high quality treatment and could offer more room for expansion, but would be more complicated to operate and is estimated at costing $7.8 million over its lifetime.
