CALEDONIA—MontHill Golf & Country Club is seeking to reduce emmisions through the use of two SunRunners, a leading-edge environmental initiative by Westhill Innovation.
The SunRunner program aims to combine the latest solar technologies with low-speed electric vehicle golf carts, reducing the need for this type of vehicle to use traditional electricity and be plugged in between uses. It integrates an ultra-light self-contained solar composite roof module and power kit.
“This unique solution offers an electrically secured connection, clean lines, and solves the challenge of towing carts that have run out of battery life,” said a press release. “With the Westhill SunRunner solution you will never need plug in your cart again.”
The energy generated by the solar roof is expected to significantly reduce electricity bills for the companies who would otherwise be charging their machines by use, in addition to contributing to the reduction of CO2 emissions.
Stu Bradshaw, Golf Course Superintendent, said, “As the golf industry continues to focus on sustainability, it’s ideas and solutions like the SunRunner we are looking for.”
He concluded, “Having the ability to charge a golf cart from the sun, while it’s being used – that’s the definition of sustainable. MontHill and I have been very impressed with our initial testing of the SunRunners and look forward to continued testing of them.”
