HALDIMAND—Enbridge Gas Inc. is looking to expand access to natural gas in areas where it was previously limited, according to a report submitted to Council May 19, 2020.
The plan focusses on Dunnville and the Lake Erie industrial lands in Nanticoke, citing how limited access to natural gas is a significant detriment to both expanding existing businesses or attracting new ones. This falls in line with the recent designation of the Nanticoke industrial lands as significant employment lands by the provincial government. The plan would also look at bringing natural gas to Featherstone and Springvale, along with future planning in areas such as the North Caledonia Employment Lands.
“Council has made a resolution to fully support the Featherstone and Springvale projects and also approved an annual grant equivalent to the municipal portion of the property taxes that Enbridge pays on natural gas infrastructure for a period of 10 years,” said Lidy Romanuk, Haldimand County Manager of Economic Development and Tourism. Council has also approved a financial contribution for the Dunnville and Nanticoke projects in principle, with specifics to be confirmed once the project details are finalized.
