HAGERSVILLE—National Slag hosted a 30th anniversary celebration to a good-sized crowd (in spite of the terrible weather conditions) at the Hagersville Community Centre on Saturday, November 19, 2022. The gig celebrated the life and beats of drummer Harry Moretti, who sadly passed away in October 2021, and all $3,298 of the total net proceeds of this gig and their October 29 Toronto gig will be donated to the Canadian Cancer Society in his memory.
Thank you to all three local grocery stores for their generous donations of snacks for the event. This evening would not have been possible without the efforts of the many volunteers present, with special thanks to Frank Vecero.
National Slag was formed in Hagersville in 1992 by Harry and includes bandmates from Toronto, Mississauga, Ancaster, and Hagersville. In the past 30 years, they have performed at Jack & Jills, weddings, charitable events, corporate events, backyard parties, high school proms, bars, cottage parties, birthday parties, and most notably their annual Halloween party with the entire band in costume.
Harry was the heart of the band – he drew everyone together socially, he kept it light, and he was intensely interested in the wellbeing of his friends and bandmates. We miss him terribly, and it made sense to dedicate this gig to his memory.
