September 17, 2023

It is with sadness and heavy hearts that we announce John’s passing on Thursday September 14, 2023 in Caledonia, Ontario. John passed at the age of 78 while taking a break tending to his yard – a hobby he so enjoyed after a long career at Dofasco and many post-retirement jobs that kept him busy, social and occupied in his older years.John was dedicated and devoted to his family and is fondly remembered by his wife Shirley of 57 years, his son Rob (Billie Jo), Ken and Todd (Angie) and his five grandchildren he so adored – William, Maxwell, Zackary, Mia and Maggie. John will be remembered for his dedication to family, his church, the Caledonia Men’s Club and his many friends who could always count on him for a helping hand and a laugh when needed. In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place and a small family service will be held on an upcoming date and friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life at Grace United Church on Saturday, November 4th, 2023 between 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. where we hope we can all share some fond memories and stories of John.

LLOYD, Betty

September 2, 2023

Peacefully at Stedman Hospice on Friday September 1st, 2023, Betty Lloyd (nee Mehlenbacher) left this life to be reunited with her Saviour in heaven.  Betty was the loving wife to Jack for almost 52 years.  She was a wonderful mom to Sarah (Mike) and Byron (Angela) and a ‘Mamo’ to six grandchildren, Zack, Alexis, Ryan, Holly, Corah and Hannah. Betty was a middle sibling and is survived by her older sister Bonnie (Steve) Lougheed and her younger brother Bob (Kathy) Mehlenbacher.  She was a part of a big and wonderful family and has many nieces, nephews, cousins and family that will miss her presence. She will also be missed by many friends but most especially Marie, and Cathy who have been her rocks these past few years. Betty lived a full life, she wore many hats, from a nurse for many years at West Haldimand Hospital, to helping Jack as a Tavern owner.  She was an active member of Knox Presbyterian Church and the ladies group there.  She loved her retired nurses group.  She loved her group of ‘friends you can keep’. She loved a game of scrabble and brought comfort to those who knew her.  Her faith and her assurance in her Lord, she relied on many times. She will be remembered for always instilling, “You are never alone, God is always with you”, and “Strangers are just friends you have not met”. We would like to extend our gratitude to Dr. Miller who always treated Mom with care and respect.  As well our gratitude to all her cancer doctors and teams from both Brantford and Hamilton who were a part of her care.  Mom also spent her last few months at Anson Place and then at Leisure Living.  Thank you for your care.  Finally to Stedman Hospice which allowed her the dignity she deserved.  It was Mom’s wish that in lieu of flowers she would like donations to this wonderful place. Family and friends are invited to call at COOPER FUNERAL HOME, 19 Talbot St. W., Jarvis on Tuesday, September 5th from 5 – 8pm. Funeral Service for Betty will be held at Jarvis Community Church (former Wesley United Church) on Wednesday, September 6th, 2023 at 11am. Interment to follow at Knox Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Jarvis. Friends are invited to send condolences and sign the Book of Memories at www.cooperfuneralhome.ca

Her commitment to improving the lives of seniors, particularly in Victoria’s Western Shores, through modern medical professionalism, and with collaboration, innovation, and best practice, has brought enduring benefit to the community. In her far too brief time with us, Jennifer filled her days and her heart by cherishing moments with her greatest joy, her children; relaxing in conversation over a cup of tea or a glass of fine wine; working on her many creative projects, especially those in her kitchen and garden, with her children either learning alongside or otherwise close by; nourishing her family and close friends with all manner of gustatory delights; journeying through space and time by getting lost and then found again, either in the beauty and majesty of the island that she chose as her home, a good tome or a deep and moody verse; and practicing her piano and violin to her heart’s content. A burial service was held in British Columbia on August 16th, 2023. Condolences may be offered to the family below.McCall Gardenshttp://www.mccallgardens.com
