The Lord called home to Glory, after a short illness, His child, Peter Damm, February 12, 2024.  Predeceased by his first wife Eileen (2003).  He leaves behind his wife of 19 years, Sylvia (Elgersma), his children Louis (Marian), Sherry (Bruce), Renita (Mitch) Kiers, Andrew (Fran), Cynthia (Dave) Marchand; his grandchildren, Peter (Netty), Ben (Rani), Nick, Spencer, Shannon, Braydon, Brittany, Tyson, Gavin and Brittany Kiers.  “Old Pake” of his great grandchildren Aaron, Jonah, Malachi, Esther, Ezra and Elsa.  A brother of Jack (Edith) Dam, Cecil (Sy) Dam, Katie Vanderwier, Don (Tilda) Dam.  Brother-in-law of John (Adrienne) Keizer, Jessie (Jim) Foley, Jim (Sheila) Keizer.  Predeceased by his parents Louis and Renske Dam, his sister Elsie Heida, his brother Frank Dam, sister-in-law Thea Dam and brother-in-law William Vanderwier.  Peter also leaves behind 9 step-children, Arthur, Alice (Andy) Algera, Melvin (Livia), Fred (Connie), Caroline (Shank) Vanderheide, Marge (Jack) Smidts, Betty, Jacqui (Alan) Armstrong, Louise (Rick) Jablonski.   Peter also had 22 step-grandchildren and 30 step-great grandchildren.  Friends were invited to call at Bethel Christian Reformed Church, 17 Robinson Road, Dunnville on Thursday, February 15, 2024 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.  Following a private family graveside service, a memorial service was held at Bethel CRC on Friday, February 16, 2024 at 2 p.m.  (Arrangements entrusted to BALLARD MINOR FUNERAL HOME, Dunnville (905-774-7277).  If desired, donations to the Christian School of your choice would be appreciated.  He has climbed Jacob’s Ladder!

PEIRSON, John Douglas

August 28, 1936 – January 31, 2024 In his 88th year, John “Douglas” Peirson passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, with his family lovingly by his side. Born August 28, 1936, to the late Violet and George Peirson, he grew up in Caledonia.   Doug was preceded in death by his wife Patsy and his grand-daughter Mairead. He is survived by his children Richard (Carol), Patti (Anne), Heather (Burt), Pam (Marie), Angie (Erica); his cousins Carl, Dougie, and Billie; grandchildren Jennifer, Brendan, Katelynne, Courtney and Andrew; his great-grandchildren Reilly and Rhiannon. Doug was one of eleven siblings; Betty, d. (Harold, d.), Larry, d. (Pat), Howard, d. (Audrey), Dave, d. (Helen, d.), Chic, d. (Shirley, d.), Chester (Betty), Ray, d. (Linda, d.), Dot (Kirk), Bonnie, d., Violet (John). Doug was an easygoing man with an enormous heart and wonderful sense of humor. He was generous, loyal, and always eager to entertain family and friends. He was clever and full to the brim with knowledge gained through all of his life experiences: mechanic, crane operator, fisherman, and avid gardener- he could fix or build anything. After retiring he spent his winters in Florida and summers at “The Cottage” where he lived until his passing in Brighton,Ontario. Doug is also survived by a host of family and friends who will miss him dearly.  He will be remembered for all the heart he shared with his friends and family. He truly loved each of them- and if you knew him, you knew it. When his time came, he carried himself with dignity, strength, and full of love for those who went before him. He will be missed dearly. In keeping with Doug’s wishes, cremation has taken place.  A celebration of life for Doug and his late wife Patsy will occur on Saturday, May 4, 2024 from 12 – 4 p.m. at 25 Willow Point Rd., Brighton, ON  where most of their fond memories were made.  All are invited to attend.

LITTLE, Kathleen Ellen (nee Dixon)

It is with heart’s full of love that Kathleen’s family announces her passing from West Haldimand General Hospital on Friday, February 9, 2024 at 91 glorious years of age.  Back in the loving arms of her husband Robert James Little (1976).  Beloved mother to Michael (Darlene) Little, Rowena (James) Taaffe, Russell Little, Darlene (Edward) Veryga and Wally Little.  Kathleen was the proud grandmother of 8 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.  A special thank you to the staff at Park View Meadows Retirement Village and West Haldimand General Hospital for the care and compassion that mom received. In keeping with Kathleen’s wishes, a private family service will take place before interment on Wednesday, February 14, 2024.  In lieu of flowers, donations to Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation in memory of Kathleen would be appreciated by her family.  Arrangements have been entrusted to MILLER FUNERAL CHAPEL, 28 Caithness Street East, Caledonia, Ontario, N3W 1B7. Surrounded by her loved ones, Barbara Ann Maidment (nee Collier) passed away in her 75th year, comfortably under the care of C.C.U. in Hamilton General Hospital on Thursday, February 8, 2024. Barbara will be kept alive in memory by her beloved husband, Kenneth, children, Laura (Joe) DeCarvalho, Ron (Tonya) Maidment, her grandchildren Brett (Stephanie), Erin, Connar, and Kristina, brother-in- law Mark (Marta), cousins, nieces, nephews and all others who had the pleasure of experiencing life with her. Her beautiful smile, words of encouragement, and creative personality will be missed so much. There will be a private family celebration of life following cremation. Peacefully with his loving wife Denise by his side at the West Haldimand General Hospital, Hagersville on Sunday, February 4, 2024, in his 81st year. Predeceased by his parents Thorvald and Olivia Petersen. Beloved husband to Denise (Joseph) Petersen. Survived by his sisters and brothers-in-law Grethe (Hans) Larsen and Anny (Gert) Jakobsen. He will be greatly missed by fur baby Sadie. He will also be missed by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Mark (Tracy) Joseph and niece Sara as well as many other nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law Erna (Folmer) Jensen. Flemming was a long-time employee of Ontario Hydro and Hydro One. As per Flemming’s wishes cremation has taken place. Peacefully at home on Monday, February 5, 2024, Steve Miklavcic age 31 years, beloved son of Mike and the late Sandy Miklavcic, grandson of the late Ivan and Paula Miklavcic, brother of Stephanie, nephew of Tammy and Bill, George and Laurie, Margaret and George, Kathy and Peter, Mary, Yvonne and Todd, Annie, Debbie, Dianne, and Karen. Also survived by many cousins and great cousins. It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of Anne Margaret Silverthorne (nee McLean). Anne passed away peacefully at the Grandview Lodge, with her loving family by her side, on Friday, February 2, 2024, in her 94th year. Beloved wife of the late Fredrick Silverthorne (2014). Cherished mother of Dan (Carole) Silverthorne, †David Silverthorne, and Brenda Silverthorne (Mark Becker). Loving grandmother of Matthew Silverthorne, Brittany (Tobin) Horton, and Caitlyn Silverthorne (Bob Montgomery). Proud great-grandmother of Brooks Horton and Mya Montgomery. Anne is survived by her sister, Mary Livingston, and predeceased by her siblings, Theresa, Toni, Roland, Douglas, Angus and Jackie, and her parents, John and Christina McLean. She was loved by her extended family and many nieces and nephews. Born in Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia, Anne moved to Dunnville, Ontario in 1945 with her dear sister, Mary. She worked at the Monarch in her early years in Dunnville, later moving into bookkeeping for various Dunnville businesses, including Silverthorne Car Sales and Silverthorne Refractories. She married the love of her life, Fred, in 1950 and together they grew a loving family. She could always be found in the kitchen, often baking her famous pies and treats for her grandchildren, who she adored. Anne enjoyed spending time in her blooming gardens and always had a pot of tea on for an afternoon visit. She will be greatly missed, but always remembered, by her family. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks and deep gratitude to the staff at Creekview, in the Grandview Lodge, for their incredible care and compassion over the past five years. A Mass service for Anne will be held on Friday, February 9th at 11 a.m. at the St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, 123 King Street, Port Colborne.  The mass will be livestreamed for those who are unable to attend in person and can be viewed by clicking the link on the funeral home website.   An Interment and Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, May 3, 2024.  Arrangements entrusted to BALLARD MINOR FUNERAL HOME, Dunnville (905-774-7277). Doris passed away January 31, 2024 at West Haldimand General Hospital. Doris May Hodgson was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1932. Doris is predeceased by husbands Frank Speller (1950-1981) and Gordon Donaldson (1985-2000), daughter-in-law Theresa Speller (2020), and her son Robert Speller (2021). Doris is survived by her sons David Speller (Pam Lambert), and Brian Speller, grandchildren Tara Speller, Shawn Speller, Christopher & Victoria Speller  as well as two great grandchildren Olivia Speller and Duncan Smith. Doris will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews and sister-in-law Marjorie Hodgson. Doris worked 10 years for the Ministry of Corrections at Sprucedale School. She returned to McMaster University after obtaining her BA and taught at Mohawk College New Credit and Brantford Campuses for 20 years.Upon retirement Doris volunteered for many years with the Alzheimer’s Society and various hospitals. Doris took up golf and was a member of HGCC for many years and a member of the Haldimand Choralairs for 30 years. The family would like to thank the care and attention given to her by the staff at R-Villa Caledonia for the past 5 years, as well as the caring staff during her short stay at West Haldimand General Hospital.In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or West Haldimand General Hospital.A grave side service for family and friends will be held at Hagersville Cemetery Saturday, February 10 at 1pm.
