WORRALL, Thomas James “Jim”
December 13, 2023
August 19, 1935 – December 4, 2023 It is with deep sadness that our family announces the peaceful passing of Thomas James “Jim” Worrall, surrounded by his loving family on December 4, 2023 at Grandview Lodge in Dunnville. Jim was predeceased by his beloved wife of 60 years, Shirley, and grandson Shamus, and is survived by his devoted children: Arlene (Mike) Tatarnic, Connie (Rick) Shepherd, Judy (Sean) O’Neill, Brenda (Dan) Kowaleski, Bev (Jeff) Little, and son Ron (Sheri) Worrall. His legacy lives on through his 16 grandchildren and his first great grandchild who loved and cherished him dearly. Jim was born to the late Thomas and Goldie Worrall and was raised on the family farm in Dunn Township along with his sisters Donna (Hack), Shirley (Odelli) and brother, Keith. Following his hard-working childhood on the farm and with a growing family to support, Jim devoted his life to providing for his family, working at Firestone in Hamilton until its closing. Jim was known as an avid outdoorsman always looking forward to moose and deer hunting season with the guys. Jim and Shirley spent many summers camping along the Grand River at the “Rave-A-Way” and exploring remote areas of Northern Ontario creating lasting memories with friends and family who joined them. In retirement, they travelled from Coast to Coast of Canada visiting sites and destinations they had always wanted to experience. Jim loved his time spent at the Firehall with his fellow firefighters and the extended support it provided to his community. He was a charter member of Dunn Station #2 serving for 35 years and achieving the rank of Captain; and was awarded the Ontario Medal for Bravery and the Canadian Star of Courage for his heroic efforts during a Lake Erie rescue. He also cherished his church community and always looked forward to the fellowship of the Men’s Club, and especially the Coffee Hours after a Sunday Service. Jim was known for his warm heart, strong work-ethic, and his steadfast values which his children and others admired most. Dad, we will all miss you forever and we hope you know how special you were to so many people. Whether surrounded by loved ones or assisting others in need, he found happiness in making a positive difference in the lives of those around him.The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the Marshview staff at Grandview Lodge for their compassionate care. Visitation was held December 15th from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at J.W. Hart Funeral Home in Dunnville. Helen was born in Oneida Township, Haldimand County, to Gordon and Leta Reid, and grew up on her family’s farm. Helen graduated at the top of her nursing class and was a registered nurse for over 30 years at Hagersville West Haldimand General Hospital. Although very quiet, Helen caught the attention of an outgoing Jack in high school. Their journey together did not begin until a few years later, when Jack was Helen’s patient in the hospital. They married in 1960, and shared 56 years together, raising 4 active children in a very busy home that was always warm and welcoming to anyone who showed up calling at the door. In their retirement years, Helen and Jack enjoyed summers on Balsam Lake, travelling, art classes, and an active community life volunteering. Helen was a caregiver at heart and a beautiful soul, and the love she had for people extended beyond her immediate family to everyone that she met. Helen was passionate about cooking wonderful meals and entertaining friends, and will be remembered for the homemade muffins and soup she would drop off to friends who were sick or simply needed their spirits lifted. Helen conquered breast cancer with great courage and strength, and went on to have a long and wonderful life. She will be remembered for her unwavering support of her children and grandchildren, and her kindness as a dear friend to many. The family will be holding a private service. In lieu of flowers, donations to West Haldimand General Hospital and Caledonia Presbyterian Church would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences may be made through www.turnerporter.ca
