Laura M. A. Best (Maillet) of Hagersville passed peacefully at home on Sunday, May 21, 2023, surrounded by her family. Laura was the loving wife of the late George A. Best (1998). She was born on February 11, 1939, to the late Adelard and Marie Maillet of Waweig, New Brunswick. She was cherished by her six children, Edwina (Wayne) of French Cove, N.S., Shelley of Hagersville, Gerald (Lynn) of Hamilton, George (Kim) of Hamilton, Nicole (Chris) of Stouffville and Marianne (Ken) of Wainfleet. Loved by her stepchildren, Eddie (Gail) and Vada (late Roy) and families. Grammy’s grandchildren were her pride and joy: Brendan, Kaitlyn, Brad, Shantal, Robert, Jessica, Tiffany, AJ, Mathew, Tyler, Alexander, Bradley, Daniel, Evelyn, Kendra and Wyatt. Great-Grandma shared giggles with Sofia and Sadie. Grandma was predeceased by her grandson, Stefan in 2016. Laura also survived by her dear brothers Armond (Grace), Rene (Donna) and her sister Alma (late Lloyd). Predeceased by her brothers Andrew (late Olive), Albanie (Patricia), Sam (Claire), Steve (late Frances) and Gerard. Missed by her many nieces and nephews. Laura and George were the proud owners of Laura’s Groceteria and Gas Bar that later became Laura’s Restaurant of Dawson City. Customers quickly became lifelong friends that enjoyed many meals and conversations. The family will honour her life with visitation at the Hyde & Mott Chapel, R.H.B. Anderson Funeral Homes Ltd., 60 Main Street South, Hagersville on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. where funeral service will be held in the chapel on Friday, May 26, 2023 at 1 p.m. Interment Hagersville Cemetery. Suddenly at home on Tuesday June 6, 2023, Elaine “The Boss” at the age of 72 years. Beloved wife of 52 years to Bill “The Capt’n” Meehan. Loving mother of Bob, and Kathy. Dear sister to Betty Ann and Don Laidlaw, and Gail and Don Doughty. Dear sister-in-law to Sharon and Bob Sherk, Lynne and the late Don Simington, and Charlene Meehan and the late Grant Hempell. Cherished aunt to many nieces and nephews. “The Boss” will be missed by many friends especially “The Gang” and the “Woodlawn Family”. Elaine shared her time and talents knitting dolls for WHGH emergency department and sewing for South Coast Community Care for Cancer, along with her other volunteer commitments. The Capt’n is left to navigate the challenging waters ahead without his First Mate. A private family gathering was held at Hyde & Mott Chapel, Hagersville. It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our dear sister, aunt, cat-mum, step-mum, step-grandmum and friend, LINDA ELIZABETH LAUCHLAN (nee COWEN) on June 4, 2023 at Norfolk General Hospital, Simcoe, in her 68th year. Linda was born on September 8, 1955 in Minden, Ontario. Her family relocated to Haldimand County where Linda attended school at Walpole North Elementary and Hagersville Secondary. She worked at Sprucedale Youth Centre for 30 years and in 2014 began a well-deserved retirement. Linda loved many things. She had a natural curiosity about a wide range of topics and a rich intellect. She loved her garden, her house, her cats, a variety of crafts, and reading, but mostly she loved, worried about, and cared for the people in her life. Linda was a person you could count on – solid and practical, with a wealth of sound advice. Linda is survived by her sister, Brenda Cowen, her nephew Ben Cowen, her step-sons, Jason, Rob and Jesse Lauchlan, her friend Dan Lauchlan, and her step-grandchildren, Charly and Daniel Lauchlan. She has gone to be with her loved ones who left before – her father, Bruce Cowen, her mother Molly Cowen, her brother, Bill Cowen, and her cats, Jilly and Ernie. Heaven gained another angel with the sudden passing of our beautiful Carole. Beloved wife and best friend to Walter for 68 years. Mother, friend and ‘rock’ to Randy (Sharon), Sandy (Jim), Jimmy (Debbie) and Suzanne (John, predeceased). Cherished Gram to Erin (Emma), Sarah, Kori, Cody (Michelle), Sheldon (Mitchell) and Maggie-Mae. Dearest Nanny to Connor (Rachel), Mackenzie (Justin) and Justine (Jared). Peacefully at West Haldimand General Hospital, Hagersville on Wednesday June 7, 2023 at the age of 84 years. Beloved wife of 60 years to Bruce Campbell. Loving mother of Jeff and Cindy, Chris and Stacey, and Luanne and Mark Robison. Dear grandmother of Greg and Katerina, and Amy (Jeff), Reba, and Nick (Chris), and Jessica, and Matthew (Luanne). Great grandmother of Colin, Liam, and Sawyer (Nick). Aunt to several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents William and Isabell, and brothers Robert, and Jim Davidson. Jean was a longtime member and organist at Chalmers Presbyterian Church. After retirement from the Haldimand board of education, Jean enjoyed golfing, crossword puzzles, traveling and playing cards. Passed peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family, at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Centre in Toronto on Saturday, June 10, 2023 in her 66th year. Beloved wife of Ivan. Cherished mother of Vytautas. Survived by her sisters Monica (best friend) and Al, and Dalia, and brothers Valdemar (Nella), and Romualda (Leda); and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Romas and Betty. Ivan and Vita were together for over 38 years raising their family in the Etobicoke area. Vita retired from the Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) and 42 years service, working as an Executive Assistant to the Legal Department. Vita enjoyed gardening, shopping and watching sporting events. Peacefully at the Stedman Community Hospice on Tuesday May 30, 2023 surrounded by love – Peter Maurice Leonard left his earthly home. Peter was the beloved husband of the late Linda (Nolan – 2022). Cherished father and best friend to Jeff, and Paul (Jessica). He was a treasured grandpa to Shandi, Shavannah, Kattera, and Matthew. A great-great grandpa to Rayleigh. He will be missed by all. Survived by his sister Paula (John), niece Terri (Chris) and their families. Predeceased by his parents Maurice & Monica, sisters Joanie, Yvonne, and Marie. Lovingly remembered by Bonnie (Dan deceased), Lana (Ken deceased), Diane (Barry), Donna (David), and the late Nancy & Brian Nolan.
