It is with very heavy hearts we announce the passing of Ruth Herkimer (nee Warring) peacefully in her sleep at Cedarwood Village Nursing Home on Saturday, June 24th at the age of 85 years, our angel has received her wings.  Beloved Mom to Virginia Slack (Tim-deceased), Shirley Whitford (Dan), Vicki Train (Pat Legere), the late Robert Armstrong (Beth), Debbie Feeney (Ed), the late Mary Armstrong, and Steve Herkimer (Kate).  Mom is predeceased by her parents Robert and Frances Warring, brother William Warring, sister Gloria Olsen (Harry-deceased) and survived by her much loved brother and sister-in-law Doug and Sharon Warring.  Mom was Grandma-Grams-Gammy to 15 grandchildren and 19 Great-grandchildren for whom she spent countless hours at hockey arenas, ball diamonds and soccer fields to silently cheer for them in victory and defeat.  Mom will be deeply missed by her nieces and nephews and also her in-laws that she always considered an important part of her life. The family would like to express their deep gratitude and thanks to the amazing staff at Cedarwood, their kindness, patience and understanding through some very difficult days will never be forgotten.As per Mom’s wishes cremation has taken place and a private family burial and Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.  As an expression of sympathy donations can be made to either the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.  www.rhbanderson.com

Passed away peacefully on Wednesday June 14, 2023 in his 90th year. Beloved husband of 65 years of Jean (Arnold); father of Karen Winegard (Ron), Susan Nash (Danny), and Barry Bennett (Sherrie); grandfather of Erin, Brandon, Dana, Amber, Kara and Karlyn; and great-grandfather of Kayla, Tyson, Lincoln, Paige, Maggie, Molly, Theo, Ainsley and Greycen. Survived by sister Marion Clements, brother Roy Bennett and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents Theodore and Beatrice (Philpot), brother Fred, and sisters Elsie, June, Hazel, and Jean. Harold joined the RCAF in 1955 and was stationed in England where he worked as an aviation controller. He retired from Dofasco in 1987 and spent over 20 summers fishing in Mattawa, Ontario. Harold was an avid sports enthusiast who spent many hours watching his favorite teams – Toronto Blue Jays, Montreal Canadians (and he was also a closet Maple Leaf fan). Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life was held on Saturday June 17th at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 154 in Caledonia from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.. In lieu of flowers, donations to Royal Canadian Legion, Branch154 would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted to MILLER FUNERAL CHAPEL, Caledonia.

April 9, 1962 – May 15, 2023 It is with a sense of sadness that our family announces the death of Terry Vaughan at the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital. Cherished son of Shirley Vaughan. Terry will be remembered by his incredible children Aaron and his spouse Brittany, Jared and his spouse Heather, and Kayla and her spouse Shawn, and by their mother Brenda Seitz. Proud Grandpa of Odin and Rheya. Brother of Dale, and Sharon Almas and her spouse Johnny. Uncle of Emma, Becky, and Michael. Predeceased by his father Gerald Vaughan. Cremation has taken place. Peacefully after a short illness at the Norfolk General Hospital, Simcoe on Monday, May 1, 2023. Drew Williamson, husband of the late Norma (nee Stire) in his 94th year. Beloved father of Debbie, Alan (Willy) and Eric and Rusty. Predeceased by his grandson Dustin. Drew will be greatly missed by his care-giver and friend, Chris Hutchinson. Drew co-founded Doughty and Williamson in Jarvis in 1950 and continued to be involved in the business until his passing. He was the longest-standing member of the Jarvis Lions Club with over 70 years of service and served as Club President and Deputy District Governor. He was a business partner with several others, helping to develop and operate various enterprises, always with the goal of improving his community. Drew sat on the West Haldimand Hospital Board of Directors for many years and was a life-long member of Knox Presbyterian Church in Jarvis. He was instrumental in getting the new Port Dover Marina started. Drew’s passions were varied, from boating to fishing to travel but always included family, friends or associates. Friends called at COOPER FUNERAL HOME, 19 Talbot Street West, Jarvis on Friday, May 5 from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday, May 6 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. The funeral service was held at the former Knox Presbyterian Church, 2058 Main Street North, Jarvis on Sunday, May 7 at 1 p.m. (The funeral service was live-streamed through the funeral home website for those who were unable to attend in person and the recording remains available online). Interment Knox Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Jarvis. Surrounded by the love of his family, Brian Jackson passed away at the age of 71 on May 15, 2023. Life partner of 51 years to Karin Jackson, father to his sons Ryan (Paula Hearn) and Curtis (Shivaan Burke), ‘Gramps’ to Josie Jackson-Burke, son of Iris and Clarence, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend to many. He led a rich life filled with passions for cooking, classic cars, carpentry, fishing, the Leafs, the Jays, tennis, family and more. May 26 would have marked 20 years since Brian began his second career at Heaslip Ford, after retiring from a 30 year career at Stelco Steel. He was well loved and respected by his work families. Donations in Brian’s name are encouraged to Hagersville Food Bank, or West Haldimand General Hospital; may the care and compassion of its nurses and doctors (and the nurses of CBI Health) comfort others the way they did our family. The courage, humour and kindness Brian showed throughout his life, to the end, continue to inspire. He’ll be deeply missed. Laura M. A. Best (Maillet) of Hagersville passed peacefully at home on Sunday, May 21, 2023, surrounded by her family. Laura was the loving wife of the late George A. Best (1998). She was born on February 11, 1939, to the late Adelard and Marie Maillet of Waweig, New Brunswick.  She was cherished by her six children, Edwina (Wayne) of French Cove, N.S., Shelley of Hagersville, Gerald (Lynn) of Hamilton, George (Kim) of Hamilton, Nicole (Chris) of Stouffville and Marianne (Ken) of Wainfleet. Loved by her stepchildren, Eddie (Gail) and Vada (late Roy) and families. Grammy’s grandchildren were her pride and joy: Brendan, Kaitlyn, Brad, Shantal, Robert, Jessica, Tiffany, AJ, Mathew, Tyler, Alexander, Bradley, Daniel, Evelyn, Kendra and Wyatt. Great-Grandma shared giggles with Sofia and Sadie. Grandma was predeceased by her grandson, Stefan in 2016. Laura also survived by her dear brothers Armond (Grace), Rene (Donna) and her sister Alma (late Lloyd). Predeceased by her brothers Andrew (late Olive), Albanie (Patricia), Sam (Claire), Steve (late Frances) and Gerard. Missed by her many nieces and nephews. Laura and George were the proud owners of Laura’s Groceteria and Gas Bar that later became Laura’s Restaurant of Dawson City. Customers quickly became lifelong friends that enjoyed many meals and conversations. The family will honour her life with visitation at the Hyde & Mott Chapel, R.H.B. Anderson Funeral Homes Ltd., 60 Main Street South, Hagersville on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. where funeral service will be held in the chapel on Friday, May 26, 2023 at 1 p.m. Interment Hagersville Cemetery. Suddenly at home on Tuesday June 6, 2023, Elaine “The Boss” at the age of 72 years. Beloved wife of 52 years to Bill “The Capt’n”  Meehan. Loving mother of Bob, and Kathy. Dear sister to Betty Ann and Don Laidlaw, and Gail and Don Doughty. Dear sister-in-law to Sharon and Bob Sherk, Lynne and the late Don Simington, and Charlene Meehan and the late Grant Hempell. Cherished aunt to many nieces and nephews. “The Boss”  will be missed by many friends especially “The Gang” and the “Woodlawn Family”. Elaine shared her time and talents knitting dolls for WHGH emergency department and sewing for South Coast Community Care for Cancer, along with her other volunteer commitments.  The Capt’n is left to navigate the challenging waters ahead without his First Mate. A private family gathering was held at Hyde & Mott Chapel, Hagersville.  A Celebration of Elaine’s Life will be held at the Hagersville Legion, 5 Alma St. N. on Thursday June 15th from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m.  A time of sharing and reflection will be at 5 p.m. As an expression of sympathy donations may be made to the West Haldimand General Hospital Ladies Auxiliary. www.rhbanderson.com

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our dear sister, aunt, cat-mum, step-mum, step-grandmum and friend, LINDA ELIZABETH LAUCHLAN (nee COWEN) on June 4, 2023 at Norfolk General Hospital, Simcoe, in her 68th year. Linda was born on September 8, 1955 in Minden, Ontario. Her family relocated to Haldimand County where Linda attended school at Walpole North Elementary and Hagersville Secondary. She worked at Sprucedale Youth Centre for 30 years and in 2014 began a well-deserved retirement. Linda loved many things. She had a natural curiosity about a wide range of topics and a rich intellect. She loved her garden, her house, her cats, a variety of crafts, and reading, but mostly she loved, worried about, and cared for the people in her life. Linda was a person you could count on – solid and practical, with a wealth of sound advice. Linda is survived by her sister, Brenda Cowen, her nephew Ben Cowen, her step-sons, Jason, Rob and Jesse Lauchlan, her friend Dan Lauchlan, and her step-grandchildren, Charly and Daniel Lauchlan. She has gone to be with her loved ones who left before – her father, Bruce Cowen, her mother Molly Cowen, her brother, Bill Cowen, and her cats, Jilly and Ernie. Heaven gained another angel with the sudden passing of our beautiful Carole. Beloved wife and best friend to Walter for 68 years. Mother, friend and ‘rock’ to Randy (Sharon), Sandy (Jim), Jimmy (Debbie) and Suzanne (John, predeceased). Cherished Gram to Erin (Emma), Sarah, Kori, Cody (Michelle), Sheldon (Mitchell) and Maggie-Mae. Dearest Nanny to Connor (Rachel), Mackenzie (Justin) and Justine (Jared). World’s greatest GG to Fox, Hazel, Jace, Nova, Blake and newborn Everette. Special sister-in-law to Sharon (Don) Adshead, Pat Harris and brother-in-law Ken (Barb, predeceased). She will be deeply missed by her many long-time friends and remaining relatives. Reunited with her beloved parents William and Lillian Harris, her sister Patricia (Pete) Taylor and brothers Jim and Ollie. Also joining father and mother-in-law Duncan and Jean and sister-in-law Lois (Jack) Bowden. Funny, creative, loyal, thoughtful and endlessly loving, Carole was truly one-of-a-kind and will be missed tremendously.
