HALDIMAND—The COVID-19 pandemic has brought profound changes to our routines, relationships, and the way we work and learn. In addition to finding new methods to deliver lessons, the province-wide school closures have challenged Grand Erie staff to also find innovative ways to replicate the supportive classroom structures that allow students to achieve and thrive. Supporting teachers, students, and families during this time has been the responsibility of the Safe and Inclusive Schools team, which also pivoted quickly to change the way it works in order to meet this new reality.
“Due to the changing landscape and uncertainty, we wanted to provide resources that would help staff feel grounded in their profession and validate common experiences,” says Christine Bibby, Safe and Inclusive Schools Lead. “We also knew we needed to support students and families in coping with the changes brought on by COVID-19, recognizing that education was now being provided in the context of crisis.”
