SMITH, Larry Andrew

March 9, 2026

May 8, 1936 – March 7, 2026 Larry Andrew Smith passed peacefully on March 7, 2026, at his home in Hagersville in his 90th year. Larry is predeceased by his parents, Calvin and Olive Smith. Larry married the love of his life, Molly Elizabeth Jackson, on October 21, 1961, and they have celebrated 64 years together. Larry is survived by his brother, Wayne Smith, and sister-in-law, Jo-Anne. Loving father to Scott Smith (Toni), Trevor Smith (Bev), Sally Smith, and Aaron Smith (Heidi). Dearest grandfather to Callum, Carly, and Cassidy Smith; Trevor Jr. Smith; Sydney and Michael Almas; Megan and Alyse Baxter; and Jacob, Olivia, and Adam Smith. Great-grandpa to Blake Smith, and predeceased by baby Claire Almas. Larry attended Moler Barber School in Winnipeg, Manitoba, from 1957–1958, where friends Jim Willis, Jim Misner, and Jim Dickson also went. Jim Dickson and Larry then went on to hairstyling in Hamilton. They worked side by side at Jim and Larry’s Barber Shop, and then The Clipper Ship, for 50 years. Larry truly enjoyed his work and the lifelong friendships he made over his 59 years of barbering, up to the age of 80 when he put down his clippers for a new golf club. Larry and Jim had a habit of dropping by the Hagersville Legion to meet with friends, have a chat, and a sip. They were both members for over 60 years. Larry was a Hydro Director for 16 years with Haldimand Hydro and enjoyed those he was fortunate enough to work with. Larry played hockey and skated into his 80’s. He was awarded in 1981 for representing what minor hockey is all about. He served many years as treasurer, paying those he hired as ticket takers and timekeepers to help the game go on. Larry’s love for sport led him to assist with the learn-to-skate and power skating programs with Grace McKeen for many years. Larry was an avid golfer, a member of Sundrim Golf Club, and later MontHill Golf and Country Club. His friends and fellow players meant the world to him. Larry’s enjoyment of friends and travel took him and Molly on many trips: Florida, Alaska, Cuba, Hawaii, Las Vegas, Vancouver, and bus trips with Topplane Travel to Nashville, Tennessee, and Branson, Missouri. He loved our beautiful north and, most of all, boating with our family and friends at Woodlawn, and golfing wherever he could go. The family would like to express our deepest gratitude to the doctors and nurses at Juravinski Hospital, and Dr. Wasi, Dr. Sienna, and their team at the Cancer Centre. Thanks also to West Haldimand General Hospital Emergency Department, Dr. Cloete, Dr. Yar, and the in-patient department. Sincerest thank you to our home care team, namely nurse Clysen, CBI Home Health, and Dr. Sault from the Stedman Outreach Team. The family will honour Larry’s life with a visitation at Hyde and Mott Chapel, 60 Main St. South, Hagersville, from 2–4 and 6–8 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2026. There will be a gathering

NEUDORF, Kornelius

February 26, 2026

Kornelius Neudorf, 74, of Lowbanks Ontario, passed away of a stroke on February 16, 2026. Kornelius was an enthusiastic organic farmer and beekeeper, and had a deep sense of wonder and reverence for the natural world around him. Known for his delightfully quirky personality, his vast knowledge of plants and farming, and his dreamer’s heart, he was deeply loved within his community. He was a perennial optimist who approached life with positivity and a sense of humour, even when faced with challenges and setbacks. A warm-hearted and gentle soul, he had a kind word for everyone who came across his path and always took the time to share words of encouragement and praise, even with complete strangers. He was truly one of a kind, marching to the beat of his own drum, and living a full and happy life, without regret. He embraced life to the fullest, whether that entailed catching a swarm of bees, stand-up tobogganing, a spontaneous road trip or becoming friends with a complete stranger. Born in Essex County to Heinz and Frieda Neudorf, Kornelius grew up on a small family farm where his passion for both agriculture and machinery were born. Despite the long hours and hard work that the farm required, his childhood was full of happy memories with his parents and siblings, Kate and Karl, including trips to the beach in the summer and skating on frozen creeks in the winter. His upbringing was deeply rooted in the Harrow Mennonite Church and the small community of German immigrants living nearby. From that foundation grew a faith lived out in compassion for others, stewardship of the land, and a deep hope for generations yet to come. The deep gratitude that he showed every day was one of the clearest manifestations of his faith. His decision to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Windsor was an opportunity to explore the world of machinery on an entirely new level.  After completing his degree, he moved to Lowbanks, Ontario in the mid-1970s to pursue a career in mechanical engineering at John Deere in Welland, where he was able to apply his brilliant scientific mind to developing machines to advance agricultural techniques and support farmers in the important work they do. He purchased his beloved farm in Lowbanks during this time, and eventually left John Deere to pursue farming more fully. Over the years, he had a variety of other jobs in the community. One of the most meaningful chapters of his farming career was his time at Shared Harvest Community Farm, where he worked alongside kindred spirits who shared his passion for organic farming and love of the land. Kornelius had two children, Kristin and Jason. Teaching came instinctively to him, and he instilled in his children a deep appreciation for the natural world and for a life guided by curiosity and a lifelong devotion to learning. Through his gentle, unwavering faith in his children, he encouraged them to grow into their truest selves
